Poshmark fees in Canada: it's not 20% — it's 20% plus HST

Poshmark is where a lot of Canadian clothing resellers start, and the fee surprises people twice: first it's a full 20% of the sale, then Poshmark adds GST/HST on top of the fee. In Ontario, a $100 sale costs you $22.60 — not the $20 most sellers quote. And on small sales, a flat $3.95 fee (plus tax) can swallow a third of your price.

Sale priceFee ruleHST (ON)You actually pay
$100.0020% = $20.00$2.60$22.60
$320.0020% = $64.00$8.32$72.32
$20.0020% = $4.00$0.52$4.52
$15.00flat $3.95$0.51$4.46 (29.8% of the sale!)

The buyer always pays the Poshmark shipping label, so shipping does not change the fee — but remember the fee is charged on the item price alone. Sales tax on the fee is charged to the seller.

The small-sale trap

That flat $3.95 is the part nobody mentions. Below $20 you pay the flat fee plus tax on it — at a $15 sale that's $4.46 gone, or nearly 30 cents on the dollar. A $10 sale loses almost 45%. If most of your closet is in the $10–$18 range, Poshmark is quietly your most expensive platform:

Ontario HST (13%). Other provinces: fee % stays the same, tax-on-fee changes with your rate.

*After fees only; item cost not deducted. Poshmark and Vinted buyers pay their own shipping label. eBay/Facebook figures assume $13 shipping charged to the buyer (pass-through) — their fees are charged on item + shipping + tax.

On fees alone, Poshmark loses to Vinted (free for sellers in Canada) every time. What Poshmark does have: a bigger North American buyer base, bundle offers, and shoppers trained to pay closer to asking price for brands. If your item is a $200+ brand piece, 20% may still net you more total dollars than a $0-fee platform where it sits unsold. That's a price-vs-velocity tradeoff — run your exact numbers through the calculator below before listing.

When Poshmark still makes sense

Does Poshmark Canada charge the fee on shipping?

No. The buyer pays the Poshmark shipping label at checkout; your fee is 20% (or the $3.95 flat) of the item price alone. This is why Poshmark can beat shipped-Facebook for light, high-price items — Facebook's 10% is charged on the buyer total including shipping.

Do I pay the HST or does the buyer?

You do — the seller. Poshmark charges GST/HST on its commission, billed to you. In Ontario that turns "$20 fee" into $22.60. Most fee calculators (and most YouTube advice) leave this out.

What about Poshmark's 20% — is it negotiable?

No. There is no seller subscription that lowers it in Canada the way some US tools advertise. Your only lever is price: raise your ask by the fee difference when crosslisting.

Is Vinted really free for sellers in Canada?

Yes — Vinted Canada charges sellers $0 and adds a buyer protection fee (~5% + $0.70) to the buyer's side. Sellers can also enable an optional "shipping discount" they fund. Base listing costs you nothing.
