Vinted fees in Canada: $0 for sellers — here's how they pull it off

Most marketplaces take their cut from you, the seller. Vinted Canada flipped the model: sellers pay 0% commission, and the buyer pays a small protection fee (about 5% + $0.70) on top of their purchase. That single difference is why a $15 hoodie nets you $15 on Vinted and $10.54 on Poshmark.

The catch (there are three, actually)

• You're paying in visibility. Zero seller fees mean Vinted monetizes sellers in other ways — paid bumps and promoted listings are how you get seen in crowded categories. Free list, cheap to test, but expect slower sales without promotion.
• Disputes go through Vinted support. Because the buyer paid the protection fee, Vinted acts as referee on "item not as described" claims. Photograph flaws ruthlessly and keep descriptions blunt — that's your insurance.
• Payout timing isn't instant. Money lands in your Vinted balance and then to your bank on their schedule — not cash-in-hand like a Kijiji pickup. Plan cash flow accordingly.

When Vinted wins for a Canadian seller

• Clothing and fashion under $40. This is Vinted's home turf — small parcels, brand-literate buyers, and Poshmark's flat fees would gut the margin. A $15 sale keeps $15 here versus $10.54 on Poshmark.
• Crosslisting the same closet. List on Vinted AND Poshmark AND Facebook. The $0 platform can't hurt you — first sale wins, and you delete the other listings.
• Testing price points. No listing fees means you can probe demand at different asks, then relist your winners on the higher-traffic platforms at the price you validated.

Does the buyer's protection fee come out of my payout?

No. The ~5% + $0.70 is added to the buyer's total at checkout. Your payout is the agreed item price (minus any shipping discount you chose to fund). If a buyer haggles, remember they're seeing your price plus their fees plus label — price accordingly.

What happens if the buyer claims the item is fake or damaged?

Vinted steps in as intermediary. If they side with the buyer, the buyer returns the item and gets refunded; you generally get your item back but lose the sale and possibly standing. Detailed photos of tags, flaws and measurements before shipping are your protection.

Can I sell non-clothing on Vinted Canada?

Yes — toys, books, decor, electronics and more are allowed, but fashion dominates buyer intent. Non-fashion items typically move slower; consider Kijiji or Facebook local for bulky or non-clothing goods.

Is Vinted's shipping really handled by the app?

Yes. The buyer selects a label size at checkout; you get a prepaid label to print or QR code to scan at the drop-off point. Canada Post and partner pickups vary by region — the app shows your options when the sale happens.
